Non Surgical Options for Weight Loss

Loosing weight can be difficult, especially for those people who are considered as morbidly obese. A person is considered as morbidly obese if he / she carries 100 or more pounds extra body weight or those who are twice their normal body weight. Weight loss surgery costs an overweight person, nearly $25000. For those individuals who do not have any health insurance policy or in case if the insurance company is not covering the weight loss surgery, selling $25000 is not an easy task.

Weight loss surgery can prove effective to loose extra body fat but often considered as a lost option, if any other remedy did not work. Surgery also carries risk factors, like health complications and threat to life. Health care professionals recommends that an individual looking for weight loss surgery must consider other non surgical options of loosing weight instead of directly considering for surgery. A weight loss surgeon does not prefer to perform operation on those individuals, who did not try did non try other non surgical options before undergoing for surgery.

Weight loss surgery can be effective in loosing weight but is not a quick remedy at all. Average patients took 2 to 4 years loosing weight, following surgery. Surgery can be risky and may cause several health complications, post surgery to a person’s life. At times, it can lead to death. Patients suffering from health complications are not considered as good candidate for weight loss surgery. Mortality rate of such patients is also high in comparison to other overweight individuals who did not carry intense health issues.

It is imperative for a patient to consider non surgical methods of loosing weight before opting for surgery. Non surgical methods includes good exercise regimen, changing diet i.e. choosing a diet rich in proteins and nutrients and cutting on complex carbohydrates and fats specially bad fats. Behavioral therapy should also need to be included along with the dietary changes and physical workouts following surgery.

Loosing weight does not mean throwing away extra body pound and rendering free, but it is a sort of management- managing the self. The only difference that weight loss surgery implement is; an overweight person should need to focus a little more on his or her health issues related to extra weight in comparison to other areas like family, business or office work etc. A person who opt for weight loss surgery can be successfully in loosing weight by way of learning and applying a bit of management for managing the self and managing the body weight. So, if you are considering for weight loss surgery, try other options first.

Only a single option will not work in your weight loss endeavor, rather you require to try a combination of these like making behavior change, doing regular exercise and choosing for good nutritious diet. You can get professional help from your dietitian, counselor and therapist. A dietitian will help you in advising good kind of food, a counselor will help you in behavior change and a therapist will help you in weight loss exercise. Only you need to do is following the advice of these professionals carefully.

You will not expect that combining non surgical options will work overnight for the fat that you have collected over years. It requires commitment to perform exercise at least 4 to 5 times in a week, choosing right kind of food and cooperating with the counselor for behavioral therapy.

You can find many gyms and fitness clubs in your vicinity for doing regular exercise. Walking in a neighborhood lane is also a good idea. The sole aim of the exercise is burning calories and converting fat mass into muscles mass. No matter what type of exercise you will choose for; walking, cycling, swimming, or some other form of physical workout. Using staircases instead of lift or elevator also burns calories. You can go to nearby store walking rather than using car. Any sort of physical work is considered as good and aid in burning of calories, but intense physical workout is very much necessary while burning of body fat is concerned.

Taking vitamin supplements daily also helps in loosing weight. Vitamins and minerals when taken in desired quantity help body in increased metabolic performance. This gives an individual much energy to do physical workout.

If after trying all of the above mentioned methods did not work for you, then you can consider weight loss surgery as lost resort for loosing weight. Discuss with your surgeon how the body changes after surgery and how combining non surgical methods post surgery will help in weight management.
