Weight loss surgery is one of the options that many individuals choose to loose extra body weight.

Weight loss surgeries are performed in a number of ways and methods. These surgeries help overweight individuals in loosing excess weight by restricting food intake. But everyone who is overweight can not be ideal candidate for receiving weight loss surgery.

The women who gain weight post labor or other time in their life are not considerable for weight loss surgery.

In addition, doctors also check that if a patient who wants to loose weight through weight loss surgery has made serious efforts in the past trying other non surgical methods like dieting, exercise etc, to loose weight. Doctors check this issue to ensure that if a patient is really serious about loosing weight. In fact non surgical methods helps post surgery in managing weight and are necessary to be followed by a patient, otherwise surgery will not work.

Weight loss surgery requires lifetime commitment and hence patients must be willing to make changes in life. These patients also must be willing to be monitored by a doctor and other professionals like nutritionist, therapist and counselor for years after surgery. Monitoring of patients is necessary to make the surgery successful.

A patient should need to be healthy in order to qualify for weight loss surgery. It is also necessary that a patient should not be suffering with complications that may have lead to weight gain in the past.

A patient must be willing to not drink alcohol after surgery, as drinking alcohol may cause serious health problems.
