A Brief Look at Different Types of Green Tea
Several different types of green tea are produced. Most of the most popular varieties come from China and Japan. They are becoming more popular in the Western Hemisphere for a variety of reasons.
The following is a description of some of the most common types of green tea (used for either pleasure or medicinal purposes or both):
From China
Longjing: This variety is typically pan fried. It is most known for its flat appearance and is one of the most famous of all Chinese teas. This particular type originates from Hangzhou. It contains Vitamin C, catechins, and amino acids.
Gunpowder: This particular version comes in three different varieties. It is most known for its rich aroma. It used to be rolled by hand but now is produced my machines. This particular product originates from Zhejiang.
Bi Luo Chun: This is one of the most famous types of green tea that originates from China. It is grown in a mountainous area in Jiangsu. It is usually produced rolled in a tight spiral formation.
Taiping Hou Kui: This particular version is processed in Anhui. Its history dates back to the beginning of the 20th century.
From Japan
Gyokuro: This one is known by its pale green color. It is said to have a high caffeine count. However it also contains a very powerful health ingredient called L-Theanine, which is said to counteract caffeine.
Matcha: The main use of this particular one is for use in ceremonies. It is a fine ground version of Ten-cha.
Genmaicha: Brown rice and Sencha is used to make this. Sometimes a little bit of Matcha is added for color.
Tamaryokucha: If you want to try a Japanese beverage that has a berry flavor you might like this one. It has an aroma similar to citrus, grass, and berries mixed together. It also is slightly tangy and has an aftertaste similar to almonds.
The health benefits of the different types of green tea vary. The one that is probably associated most with good health is the Longjing version from China. In order to be sure you are receiving the most beneficial type of this plant you may want to do your research on where various brands of tea are harvested.
Note that green tea used for health reasons is usually derived from Camellia sinensis. It is usually associated with prevention of serious diseases such as heart failure, stroke, or cardiovascular disease.
This particular plant-based product is often used to prevent cancer as well. It helps fight against free radicals that would cause cancer cells to form.
This particular variety of this substance also is believed to help prevent artery disease and diabetes. It often is used to treat minor discomforts such as angina and diarrhea. People often use it as a detoxification aid.
An additional benefit of certain types of green tea including this one is to help fight against bacteria that causes bad breath. Moreover, people who drink this particular beverage are said to experience greater dental health.
