Green Tea Caffeine Facts

More and more people see the need to cut down on their caffeine consumption. Green tea caffeine facts are offered in order to determine how much of this beverage is safe to drink in a day. Switching to this type of beverage has its many benefits.

Caffeine Intake Concerns

People watch their caffeine intake for a variety of reasons. One of the most important perhaps is to correct problems with anxiety or insomnia. This is often caused by drinking too high of a caffeinated beverage-especially when consumed at night time.

Another important reason to watch caffeine levels is because a person may want to conceive a baby. Although some researchers say that a moderate amount of caffeine is not harmful, more than a cup of coffee a day can damage a child.

On the other hand, a person can drink two to three cups of green tea per day, depending upon the strength of the tea and how long it is brewed and steeped. The more times a portion of tea is steeped in water the less caffeine it contains.

Loose leaves of green tea usually contain on average an amount of 32mg of caffeine per 100ml serving. Regular (not espresso) coffee generally contains about 40 mg per ml.

Now, some sources say that green tea actually contains more caffeine than coffee. That is true if the tea is in its most natural state. Besides, apparently the type of caffeine in this beverage is said to be more beneficial in some ways than in coffee.

In fact, green tea in general-even if it has caffeine-is more beneficial than coffee. The difference between these two beverages is that green tea contains a far higher amount of certain types of antioxidants than coffee.

One of the most well-known agents present in green tea is EGCG. Therefore, it is believed to be helpful for building the immune system. As a result, people who drink this beverage are less likely to develop cancer. Further research indicates it may also help reduce rheumatoid arthritis symptoms.

Decaf Tea

If you want to make sure you avoid drinking too much caffeine, naturally decaffeinated green tea is probably the best for you. You can still reap the many rewards from drinking this beverage without worrying about whether or not it will have a negative effect on you.

Decaf tea can help increase your body’s defenses against all kinds of viruses and other sicknesses. Moreover, it can help prevent the progression of heart disease-without the added side effect of insomnia or anxiety.

Additional Info

Since 1999, new studies have been performed on green tea. Caffeine facts and dosage information regarding treatment of various conditions has also been presented.

For instance, 240 – 320 polyphenols are present in three cups of green tea.

Moreover, green tea caffeine levels vary not only according to how many times you steep it but also according to how concentrated of an amount is added per cup of water. Usually about 2 to 4 grams of tea is recommended per cup.
